2018 sleeping tips for babies

There are a lot of misconceptions about baby sleeping positions. Many say sleep on the back many say to sleep on tummy or sides.

Many say boys should sleep on their back but girls should not because lying on the back may increase the chest area. So there are many misconceptions like this.

So here are some things you have to be careful about.
Always make your baby sleep on the back until 4 Months of age
Have you heard SIDS(SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME)? If not then you are at the right place. SIDS mainly occurs when your baby sleeps on Tummy side or sides. 
I don’t know the exact reason behind but SIDS occurs due to tummy side sleep in babies. So try to avoid until 4 months. After that, they can rollover accordingly.
It doesn’t mean you don’t allow your baby for some tummy time. You should give some tummy time while playing only. Sleeping should be only on the back.


Be careful about the head shape

Actually infants head is very soft and delicate. That can be affected if sleep on only one side, you have to change the sides after some time. There shouldn’t be pressure only on one side.
If there is any kind of flattening happen then try to avoid that side and use another. Do massage of the head but don’t force too much. It’s a baby so force a little like you do massage.
Use Mustard pillow
This is definitely a must for infants. This pillow is used mainly for maintaining the shape of the head. This really works.

  1. Honestly, I never worried about SIDS when my girls were infants. I put them on their sides and stomach for naps, and used a sleep position pillow, that kept them from rolling over.

  2. I work in Child Protective Services, and we are required to counsel every new mother about SIDS; it is real, and it happens more often than people think. I was very careful about positioning my baby on her back to sleep, until she was old enough to roll over on her own. Even then, if I woke up, I would check on her in her crib, and place her back on her back. Thanks for sharing this, and enlightening people!

  3. My oldest had an issue with breathing through her nose and had sleep apnea as an infant so she had a very difficult time breathing while on her stomach so tummy time was limited for the first 6 months. She had to wear a helmet to fix her head because it was perfectly flat in back.

  4. This was so hard for me when my girls were babies. They loved to sleep on their tummies, and they slept horribly on their backs. I'll admit, I cheated sometimes. I used special pillows to prop them to sleep on their sides. That worked better than their backs.

  5. My child never ever slept on his back and gave me lots of sleepless nights and I knew about SIDS but the only option was on his tummy and up to date, he only sleeps on his tummy.
