Winter special Green Peas Nimona recipe

Hey everyone
Today I am sharing my favorite recipe during winters, known as Nimona. Many of you may not be heard of it. It is the specialty of UP and Bihar. It’s north Indian cuisine. Even many from there also may be not aware of it.

Winters are for food I love this season because I have so much to eat. Green peas are actually going in every veggie we make. But this recipe is all about using green peas. So let’s get started.

Few things need to be careful:
Green peas must be fresh and sweet in taste otherwise your recipe won’t taste that good.
You must use asafoetida (Hing) because peas are very heavy to digest. Even it must be used in every winter’s recipe because we use cauliflower cabbage peas eggplants etc. All are heavy for digestion.

Ingredients

RECIPE

Preparation time 10 min
Cooking time 20 min
Total 30 min recipe

Method
1. Take a pan, add two tbsp oil and fry sliced potatoes. Let it be golden brown and keep it aside.

2. Take 200 gm of green peas in a blender and blend it to make a coarse paste. Then put two teaspoons of oil and saute peas paste for at least 10 min.

3. Make a paste of onion, garlic, ginger, coriander leaves, and green chili and blend to make a smooth paste.

4. Take a wok and add two spoon oil and then add cumin seeds and bay leaf. Let it sputter and then add the onion-garlic paste and cook for 5 min.

5. When it gets translucent then add chopped tomatoes, add salt and green peas paste.

6. Add some green peas as it is. add one small glass of water as it is curry. So add water according to your choice. Cook this on low flame for 5-6 minutes.
7 Add fried potatoes and one teaspoon garam masala, we don’t add too many spices here because the taste of peas will be gone.

8 Cook this for 2-3 minutes and then garnish with coriander and lemon.

Enjoy with chapati or rice. My favorite is Rice and nimona.

That looks great, I wonder if there is a way to make this into a crockpot meal. Can you freeze it?

This is interesting and sounds delicious! I am loving the ingredients and am a fan of Split Pea soup which my mom used to make all of the time after New Years with the leftover ham bone. I am taking down this recipe… thank you!
