There are many things you should be careful about after delivering a baby. Many things you know and many you don’t. I suggest you start reading articles related to motherhood, newborns caring tips and all during your pregnancy. That will be very helpful for every new mommy.
Ok one of them is the umbilical cord care. When you deliver the baby first thing doctors do is cutting the umbilical cord connecting you and your baby.
You and your baby can’t feel it because it doesn’t have any nerve. After the cord cut down there is 2-3 cm of the stump on the navel. Doctors tied it very carefully and you just have to take care of it.
There are some instructions you should follow
1. Don’t give bath until the stump will fall off
It will take I guess 5-10 days normally to fall off. It may take longer in some cases but not more than 15 days. After it falls off there become a wound that will dry out in three to four days. This is the whole process you have to be careful.
During this duration, don’t give the bath. You can do sponging with little soap and lukewarm water but don’t use anything near naval. It has to be dry always. Doctors give powder to spread near naval. Clean it only with tissue and apply powder.
2. Use comfortable clothes
The clothes should be very clean and comfortable. They should not fit in size in that case the stump will not dry easily so make sure there should always be a gap for air near naval.
Use nappy beneath the naval area for the same reason.
It will dry out and fall off on its own. That may look like it is not healing or after stump fall off the wound need anti-skeptic but it is not necessary. That will be done on its own.
4.When you should run to the hospital
If you feel there is redness or sore or flesh or smell puss after 15 days of the delivery then you should consult your doctor for sure.
The infection rarely occurs, but if it does, you may notice these signs:
